Day #01 part 2
27.09.08
5.00 pm. After the floriade we walked to the Nara festival across the bridge. Actually until today i have no idea why they celebrate it.
But as Yoshi said, there was good food! though not exactly cheap, but "try at least once" kind of cheap.
First thing i say was lots of people flying kites. Australia not like singapore, got power lines everywhere. But i expected to see those Japanese kites, the ones that looked like fish and people with frowny faces.
Also, there was this road bike show! which kinda looked out of place. hmm.. maybe all Japanese brands? Yamaha, Honda, Boon Siew.. oops. =P
And they even had this balloon water game! ,which as Yoshi explained to me, was a common street trick to get money off children in Japan lol!
I also noticed, there were LOTS of Japanese ppl there! How come i never see so many in City or ANU? Thats my friend Aaron dressed up as a...geisha? Not sure =P got shocked 4 years off my life when i saw him!
Thats Chern working one of the stalls. Selling curry rice, tempura cheese balls, and other stuff. He so kindly gave us lots of coupons to eat free at his stall! Later he complained that the money made was "not that much" Hmmm... wonder why?
The cheese tempura balls were a novelty, but really not worth the price lo. And the curry tasted EXACTLY like my mom's cooking! Like her chicken stew, just a little bit sweeter. Who knew?
Other stuff was kendo demonstrations...
...Really huge character writing....
...And mochi making! and they gave it away free!
Top left: this one was a salty type, with algae on top.
Top right: Sweet, with peanut bits!
Bottom left: I liked this the best! it was cold, with sweet red bean paste!
Of course the best food i liked there was TAKOYAKI! Note to you ppl, if you want to buy my friendship, give me lots of takoyaki. I just can't get enough of those octopus-filled dough balls !!!
Here are some volunteers preparing for the night's candle garden.
This is Tomomi and Yoshi
One of the main events was a stage with shows and stuff.
We all sat on the grass, picnic style, and had a great time! And thats me with some play props =)
This is me with a Pikachu mask. I think they do this in Japan. Jason : This looks like Anbu! (Naruto quote).
Of course the highlight of the festival was the candle garden. Candles + garden = beautiful. I like how it says that ordinary things can look so nice together =)
And i think any festivals that are this ancient have some degree of magic to them. I think i caught a hint of magic in the following shots.
This is better than floriade! and its natural!
I caught a fairy running across the grass. wow.
The togetherness that friendship brings =)
