Unilodge: of Tickets and Chickens
4th December 11.17 am.
Dear diary. These are my last words. If anything happens to me I donate my laptop to my brother. My last meal should be umm… something with tons of smoked salmon on it. Why?
There is an inspector in the place! And a pretty one at that.. but that’s not the point! What if she finds out that there are 3 people living here over the limit?!?!
And to think I was in the bathroom when she came.. oh well..
Today Yeam (or Sze Huey?) made a nice sandwich for me. Weee!! I feel like a kid again!! But I think Sze Huey made this one, cos the egg is nicely cooked and theres no cheese in it. Nice.
Oh good.. the inspectors gone. SAFE!
9.49 pm.
I’m going home on Sunday!! Wheee!!! Food here I come!! But then again the “missing food” effect is gone.. cos I’ve been living off home cooked food for the past 3 weeks here..and its all asian food.. so I won’t be as excited as I could be when I finally sink my teeth in some of mom’s cooking or ikan bakar with limau and special peanut pedas sauce…..drool…..slurp!
But then hor, the stupid quantas soo follow rules!! Why can’t they be like Malaysia?!! When I wanted to pay the changing fees on the phone they saidi can’t do It cos I’m not the bearer of the card! Aiyo.. so tomoro got to go out to their office at Alinga Str, Northbourne Ave. blablabla… asd you know me one.. I worry consistently over these stupid things.. what if they can’t book my tickets? What if this? What if that? Aih… in times like this have to pray and trust God. …I sound like a hypocrite! But I’m not. Do I really believe these things? Yes. 100%.
Anyway heres a tale of 2 chickens:
Today lunch I tried to cook some honey chicken using some sauce in a packet. Hehe I’ve graduated from cooking ultra delicious instant noodles to cooking not-so-great packaged sauce stuff. Anyway I got 2 drumsticks, some potatoes, garlic, onions, whatnot.
The first stupidest thing was trying to fry the stupid chicken!! The recipe said to deep fry it, bu somehow it wouldn’t fry evenly!! Maybe its cos I fried it in a shallow dish pan..donno la!! But anyway after a few minutes I realized the only part of the chicken that was getting cooked was the outer part. So I used some kitchen scissors to cut up the chicken and fry those pieces. Unfortunately I lost one of the drumsticks in the process. No matter what I did it wouldn’t fry properly!! Argh!!!
But in the end the rest of it cooked well. After the potatoes abd stuff were added, it looked pretty good! But the sauce didn’t look anything like the packet… oh well.. I’m a sucker for advertisements. ..
It tasted good too.. cooking and prep time : 1 hour. SIAO!!!
So for dinner I was a little wiser. I chopped up the chicken earlier and fried those pieces instead. And the results were soo much better!! I didn’t even splash any oil around like in my first attempt! And this time the veggies were much better!! I added satay sauce this time and was soooo happy when I finally ate it… can taste the sweat of my work.. so happy!! Now I finally realize how hard/easy it is to cook if you know the correct way.. but I still have long way to go in frying chicken!! I can fry pork and beef pretty well though.. its just chicken… cooking and prep time: 20 minutes!!! Awesome!!!
So lesson learnt is: cut up the chicken BEFORE you fry it! and also practise makes perfect!!
